Keynote – Guada Lozano
Grounding our teaching in place and each other
How might we lean on place—the land that surrounds us, the spaces we each call our own—to transform the mathematics we experience with our students? How might we see and relate to each other differently through placed-based mathematics? I invite you to join us to ponder these questions together, and hear about a curriculum and community of practice that cultivates heart, mutual relationality, and meaning to reinvent the mathematics learning experience for ourselves, our planet, and each other.
Guada Lozano serves as Director for the Center for University Education Scholarship (CUES), is an Associate Research Professor of Mathematics, and a Founding Member of the STEM in HSI Working group at the University of Arizona. Guada grew up in Argentina. A current grant-sponsored project most dear to her heart, is the creation of a culturally-affirming precalculus dual-enrollment curriculum centered in Tucson, its identity and its people. Trained as a mathematician, she has led and contributed to local, national, and international efforts committed to growing equitable practices in higher education, STEM professions, and public schools. In 2021 Guada was named a Notable Woman in Math by the Association for Women in Mathematics, and featured in the inaugural deck of Even Quad Playing Cards for her contributions to research, the profession, and the University on teaching, learning, and equity.
More information about Guada and her work can be found at this link.
